Background and Political Context#
The TUF vs Roman Empire War unfolded during the summer of 2016, the high-water mark of The Unfettered’s military power under Agalloch. During this period, TUF was fighting three major alliances at once — YARR in Elgea, Roman Empire [RE] in the Broken Lands, and The Hashashin [SIN] in Newlands. Despite the strain, TUF’s campaigns demonstrated a level of coordination and aggression that few alliances had ever achieved.
Roman Empire entered the conflict in early July after assisting The Hashashin in breaking a TUF siege in the Broken Lands. According to the July 5, 2016 Illyriad Times report, RE “jumped into the fray” by striking at TUF’s operations, prompting Agalloch to open a full campaign against them. TUF’s response was immediate: sieges were launched across RE’s territories in both Coanhara and Long White, even as its armies were still engaged elsewhere.
The imbalance between the two sides was stark. As the August 14, 2016 Illyriad Times article later summarized, TUF ranked among the game’s largest alliances with 28 members and 3,825 squares claimed, while RE held only 1,679 squares. Against such odds, TUF’s swift offensive overwhelmed RE’s defenses and forced a rapid collapse within weeks.
Chronological Campaign Table#

Key Military Actions#
The TUF/RE War Score Card lists five confirmed successful TUF sieges, including:
- ThorOdin’s raze of vgsrhhheth’s Lonesome (July 10)
- AianNick’s raze of Parthenon’s Elfend (July 11)
- Spektor’s razes of Blaxx Stoneaxe’s Easy Isolated Target and Target of Unbowed Scrub
- moses’ raze of Blaxx Stoneaxe’s Banished From BL Moses?
TUF also broke several RE siege attempts, including Patience King’s failed siege of Ppiotr’s Pir Urbas and multiple attacks on PublicRelations’ dq Sitting Situation. RE scored no successful sieges, managing only a handful of defensive breaks, with assistance from SIN forces such as Bulani’s relief of Knight of Ancients’ Vgrumkik.
Analysis and Aftermath#
The TUF vs RE War lasted roughly six weeks but underscored TUF’s dominance at its peak. By August, both YARR and RE had been decisively beaten, and TUF was leading The Hashashin in concurrent combat. The August 14 Illyriad Times concluded that “considering that TUF had to fight YARR, RE, and SIN simultaneously, the victories are indeed very impressive.”
This campaign marked the high point of Agalloch’s career. Since January of 2016, TUF was directly involved in 5 consecutive wars — no war in Illyriad was fought in the first half of the year that TUF wasn’t involved in.
The same organizational skill that allowed him to direct three simultaneous wars would also strain his alliance to its limits. Within a month, TUF’s leadership was engulfed in the escalating war with The Hashashin; by September, both Agalloch and ThorOdin were permanently banned, leading to TUF’s disbandment. The TUF vs RE War thus stands as the last complete and uncontested victory of Agalloch’s reign—an emblem of the brief period when The Unfettered ruled Illyriad’s Broken Lands.
